Book Title : The Silent Compass

Genre : Poetry, Literature, Inspirational.

Review – 5 stars out of 5. I recommend this book for your Kindle, IPad, Android and other reading devices.

I grew interested to read this poetry book when I saw the vibrant cover and its title because of the element of mysticism and the beautiful symbolic design in it. I loved all the poems which the author so soulfully and thoughtfully wrote. The author’s flair for words, originality in concept, the depth in her thinking prowess and her wise and deft choice of vocabulary made the poems simple and heartfelt to read. The author’s uplifting thought process and her sincere efforts to spread the light of positivity and deep reflection on life through her poems is indeed credible.

Some of my favorites are the starting poem titled ‘Complete’, followed by ‘Because we can change’,’The Silent Compass’, ‘The Awakening’, ‘Innocence’, ‘Heartbeat’, ‘Let it Flow’ and ‘Nowhere’. Through each of her creative creations, the author conveys us positive and enlightening messages of inspiration, good wisdom, motivation and authenticity in this seemingly complex world where duality and duplicity are routine.

This is a short read and recommended for people who want to be refreshed and relaxed in a quiet ambiance, away from chaos and busy schedules while reading some thought provoking and uplifting creative titles to get back their energy and more vigor for life. Read the rest of this entry »

In addition to writing and reading, one of my favorite musings is listening to Music… any music that lifts up the mood, brightens up the day and inspires. Music is truly the food for the soul, with its universal language of unity, crossing all boundaries and feeding positive energy and happiness in one’s life.

I loved this new beat – Music that I found while surfing YouTube. Today, therefore, I am posting the YouTube link to this Musical beat — hope you enjoy! Have a nice day everyone 🙂

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and quick Read, October 23, 2012

the book 12 Precious Anecdotes From Life by Payal Roy is a book of short stories that are connected by the characters within it. though this book is not dramatic or flashy it is a wonderful read. Each story is a look at a moment in time and is written so that not only do the characters learn something about them self and life but you as the reader looking in also get to come away with a lesson or two. i have to say also this was one of those books that for me was what i consider to be a quick read under two hours from start to finish.Over all a good book and worth a little of your time to go read and enjoy. Two thumbs up for this one.

I found this short book to be a delight. It was interesting to see how the characters interrelated to one another and the truths behind the stories can not be denied.

The truths should be kept in the forefront of all our minds and live in our hearts.

This is a pleasant, refreshing collection of twelve short stories, each carrying a message on how to live a better life; how to appreciate life; and how to be a better person. I think everybody, young and old, can take something away from this collection. A very lovely book.

KNOW THIS IN YOUR HEART (copyright2013@Payal Roy)

Rippling tides, emotions astride

Struggling might, a thirst

To rise high, to stand

Tall above all, high

In the sky with wonder

In the eyes.  Move on,

Never quit, but carry dreams

In your stride. Realizations of

Those passions, toil away the

Tedious hours of the day, never

Bow, never woe ’cause of cynics,

Never cower to criticisms from

Unhappy folks whose lives are

Dark with desires unfulfilled.

Believe in the dreams, believe

In the might, know this that

Your way is always right, ’cause

Its you who would choose in

The end, how you’d like to lead

Your life. Keep running, keep

Climbing steadily with might,

Even if you fall, do stand tall,

And the world would seem

Like a golf ball, smaller as you

Rise high and grow.

Hello friends,

Today I am going to write a review about an interesting title that I found from a popular publishing house PDMI Publishing LLC

PDMI Publishing has a wide range of books for the readers across multiple genres and offers a great user experience as a personal publisher for authors wishing to explore the vibrant and creative world of writing and publishing.

So here is the book review – this book is for readers of the genre paranormal, supernatural, fantasy and Young Adult.

VS

An engaging and fun read with “what happens next” moments and loads of twists, intrigue and action.

Book Title : VAMPIRE SYNDROME Book 1 (of the Vampire Syndrome Trilogy)

Author : Daven Anderson

Publisher : PDMI Publishing LLC, USA

Genre : Action, Supernatural, Young Adult

Purchase Links : Amazon – http://www.amazon.com/Vampire-Syndrome-Daven-Anderson/dp/0615756018

PDMI Publishing Store – http://mystore.pdmipublishing.com/fiction/12-vampire-syndrome-vampire-syndrome-trilogy-ya-version-by-daven-anderson.html

My review : 4.9 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book for your kindle , IPad, Android devices, and in print as well.

Review in detail:

I began reading Vampire Syndrome with an open mind the moment I skimmed through the first few pages. They glued me to the story. I decided then and there, that I was going to finish this book, as it became interesting the more I read on, and the story began to develop gradually.

Plot-  Vampire Syndrome by Daven Anderson is one of those Young Adult- paranormal genre books, which will keep you mesmerized through its lucid language and make you feel for the characters in action.

Vampire Syndrome – Book 1 is essentially an introduction to the main plot being woven with the lead and supporting vampire characters in action. The story begins with a rusty Wild West background of Colorado in the mid-nineteenth century, through the eyes of the female lead vampire Lilith, who is hunting  a vicious “Pure”.

The swift action and drama gradually leaps forward to the modern twenty-first century in the subsequent chapters. They unravel gripping twists and interesting subplots thereby extending a  good support to the main storyline, which is  – The eternal battle between human vampires (dhampirs) and the Pures (big bad non human vampires).

One of the lead characters in question is a special needs human vampire named Jack Wendell, who is the decisive factor in this war between the human vampires and the Pures. The author’s wise choice of such an unconventional lead vampiric character, is what makes the story all the more gripping and interesting to read on.

I don’t want to give away too much of the story here because it’s a great read. However, to give a hint to all fans of  Young Adult paranormal genres,  I’d recommend reading Book1 of the Vampire Syndrome series to find out two things

–Why Jack Wendell is so special and

–How he can change the fate of the human vampiric community in tandem with the normal human world.

Writing style and character development

The sentence construction is short, simple and picks up the reader’s interest from the very beginning. The dialogue is easy to follow, peppy and has a touch of regular day conversation, with occasional dark comedy and pun;

For example – in the interrogation room scene, where Venator Damien interrogates some teenage kid vampires with attitude, after their double date ends in a disaster and warns of an enormous impending catastrophe both for the vampires and normal humankind.

The name of the lead female protagonist is revealed gradually as the chapters unravel the story step by step. Cleverly done.

The complex plot of the story is expertly woven. The plot is well organized and mostly sticks to its path. The book reads like an action-animation fantasy, right out of a Japanese manga vampire series.

The author successfully delves deep into each character and gradually unravels their own stories which add an interesting twist to the plot; for example, the teenager with special needs named Jack Wendell who got bitten by a “foamer” and then ran away from the scene.

The author gradually shows with great care and expertise, the metamorphosis of Jack’s thought process and onset of the vampire syndrome – the churn of fear, excitement, elation and power, albeit with a slight touch of teenage innocence and childlike curiosities. The emotional impact and sympathy for this character is felt all the more, as the character himself tells his experience in the first person.

This reminds me to share with other readers that 99% of this novel is written in the voice of each character as the story proceeds. At the beginning of every chapter, the name of the character is mentioned, and the events unfold from their point of view. Therefore the author lets readers view the plot developments from a variety of angles essentially through the unique mindsets of each character who share their experience in a first person narrative.

However, the main plot veers away from its normal path at times, circling around additional snippets of a vampire’s usual life and this makes the reading a bit slower in the mid section of this book.

Maybe the author might want to create some sequels to the main plot, as the sub plots seem to be designed to further probe into lives and times of each character separately in probable future sequels? Also, the story seems to stretch a bit before converging to the final action sequences.

The author seems to have an interest in vintage and antique automobiles. This is visible when he often shares valuable information about luxury and exotic cars, upgraded to run on high-octane adventures. It is a feast for the eyes indeed, as the scenes of car chases and descriptions of the high-end cars (both modern as well as vintage ’60s or ’70s savvy luxury models) are mentioned in much detail.  Car lovers would love to read this book too.

The author has also done some good research on various dialects and accents of the English language that were widely prevalent in the mid-nineteenth century across various parts of North America.

Nevertheless, Book 1 of the Vampire Syndrome saga manages to hold its engaging and intriguing “what happens next” moments quite well in the succeeding chapters.

An additional uniqueness of this novel is that, it is written from the view-point of goodish vampires – the ones who don’t go out unnecessarily to hunt normal humans and they follow the rules of their own community. This means, they keep their kind under control to protect their own secretive society. Some parts of this novel also gave a feel of watching the popular paranormal action – fantasy movie series – Underworld.

All in all, I give this book 4.9 stars out of 5. I applaud Daven Anderson’s sincere efforts to write an engaging, action packed and fun to read novel. This book seems to be a good platform to look out for more creative and great stories from the author’s staple of Vampire Syndrome sequels.

Great writing Daven Anderson!

Dear friends and book lovers,

Today I will post a review for the children’s book Thomas and the Lily Pond by  popular children’s author Jane Whiteoak.

Thomas_bk

Book title : THOMAS AND THE LILY POND

Author : Jane Whiteoak

Genre :  Children’s book – friendship, social skills and causes, growing up

Amazon Kindle Store : http://www.amazon.com/Thomas-Lily-Pond-ebook/dp/B008LG0T0G

My review : 5 out of 5 starsI recommend this Ebook for your kindle or reading on your IPad, tablets or other android devices

Review in detail : This is a children’s book with a delightful short story featuring a group of animals and birds as interesting and unique characters. This story can be read to your children or nephew/niece, grandchildren in the age group 4+ to 6 years. Children between 7 to 10 years old can read this wonderful story by themselves.

A group of animals and birds lived a harmonious and happy life in a forest with a lily pond. Each were assigned a specific duty to keep the forest safe, secure, filled with food and maintain the harmony. Each animal worked very well as a team member. There was Thomas – the friendly turtle, Rupert – the big white rabbit, Roman – the strong helpful raccoon, Sammy – the elderly red squirrel, Spike – the skunk who patrolled the forest at night, Binnie- the blue jay, Princeton – the protective porcupine, Corinna – the chickadee and Winston – the old wise owl.

Every animal respected and loved one another and gave space to grow and shared food with each other. One day a bull frog named Bruno arrived at the Lily pond amidst this peaceful group. Bruno was a cunning frog and he wanted to take the whole of Lily pond as his home where Thomas used to live. After his arrival, things changed in the forest, specially for Thomas.

To know what happened to the forest, I’d recommend you to read this wonderful story which has a touch of excitement, emotions and interesting adventures!

The story is simple, focusing concisely on each special trait of the animal character and gently directs the reader to the core issue at hand. It is easy to read to a child and focuses on the realistic aspects of bullying by a manipulative and cunning member in a group and how to thwart such bullying attempts at an early age. The story also shows the detrimental effects of surrendering to a bully and getting conned by his false compliments, thereby questioning and suspecting own friends at the word of a bully.

I think this sort of book is very much required in today’s diverse society, specially when cases of bullying are often heard of and witnessed in schools beginning from play school right up to the higher classes. From an early age, children ought to know who’s a bully and who’s not; and this book successfully and gently reveals this aspect to the children and how to confront and thwart bullying unitedly.

Therefore, this book encourages to learn team work, helping people in society, unity, compassion, forgiveness, love for your neighbor and other such aspects that keep the humanity alive in human beings.

I loved the story and I plan to read it to my niece as well! Author Jane Whiteoak should continue writing such meaningful stories and entertain both the parents and their children!

Hello friends and book lovers,

You may know by now that this blog is my personal author blog , as well as a book review blog.

I sometimes review books at my own leisure, when I get some free time. Also I review those books that I really want to give a review of.

Here is one such book that I have reviewed today.

where_secret_lies

Book title : WHERE THE SECRET LIES

Genre :  Fiction – Suspense , Thriller, Romance, Reincarnation

Author : Malika Gandhi

Amazon Kindle Store : http://www.amazon.com/Where-the-Secret-Lies-ebook/dp/B00BUOWFBC

My review : 5 out of 5 starsI recommend this Ebook for your kindle or reading on your IPad, tablets or other android devices

Review in detail : Author Malika Gandhi’s suspense/romantic fiction blended with a touch of historical fiction and contemporary Indian culture of the modern age, is a run away success for people who love to read such genres.

I loved every bit of the novel. There is suspense, there is thrill, there are chills, there is unpredictability, there is steamy passion of romance, there is action, there is a mystery, there is culture clash — all in all an impressive concoction of all the ready ingredients that one would like to get in a story which would make it a fast paced and enjoyable read.

For me, Where The Secret Lies was a wonderful read and it ran like a movie in my head. I don’t want to divulge much of the story here in the review.

The story focuses on two female lead protagonists and how their lives changed from living in the comfort zone to falling into an inferno of change, sudden shock and realizing that life would never be the same again. The first female lead — Anjali, is from the Indian independence era of 1947 when India was going through the extremely difficult, sorrowful and troubled days of partition, and the second lead — Arianna, is a second generation British-Indian teenager visiting her ancestral town in 2012.

When Arianna (the modern female lead) arrives at her cousin’s ancestral house (a Haveli) in Lucknow to participate in the great big Indian Wedding, she never expects what she’d face in the days leading up to the wedding. She has an experience of a life time, makes new friends and helps to unlock a mournful and dreadful secret that had plagued and haunted the Haveli for a very long time.
Their interesting and intriguing experiences have been deftly written and displayed before the readers’ eyes in separate chapters. These chapters move back and forth from the past (1947) into the future (2012). So, I had no trouble relating to the chapters as I was taken in an out of the past now and then through these interesting chapters.

The dialogues are simple and easy to understand. The author had expertly woven her vocabulary towards construction of simple sentences that show a stark difference in the throw of the dialect and thought process of people (second generation Indians) brought up in Britain and Indians in India.

However, it is heartening to see that no matter how far away from their roots the non resident Indians are, they always return to visit India at some point in their life, getting rejuvenated by their ancient culture and accepting both the cultures of their current country as well as their ancestral country.

All in all I give 5 out of 5 stars to this mesmerizing and thrilling story and congratulate the author for creating such a wonderful book for the readers!

Dear friends, it has been a while since I have posted in this blog. The joy of reading is such that once we begin reading an exciting and an interesting book, we don’t seem to notice how time flies by. This love for reading inspired me to write books on my own.

I have begun to take small steps into the vibrant and brilliantly creative world of writing and authorship and every moment of this world has been a precious learning experience for me. It takes a long time to complete a novel. While I am writing one, I wanted to take a break during this interesting and ardous task. Therefore, I wrote 3 books to keep my thoughts flowing and garner new ideas for my novel through these 3 books.

My journey into the wonderful world of writing began with the first book on poetry and travel photography. This was followed by a collection of short stories (I will have a separate post about the short stories collection) and a second Ebook on poetry.
